3 Accessories You Need For Your Industrial Workbench

Posted on: 16 March 2017

Completing minor home improvement projects can be a great way to improve the quality and function of your living space. Having access to an industrial workbench gives you a safe space in which to work, making these workbenches an important ally for anyone looking to complete a minor construction project.

If you are looking for a simple way to make your existing workbench even more useful, here are three accessories that you need to add to your workbench in the future.

1. Purchase a bench vise.

Having an extra pair of hands when you are working on a home improvement project can be useful, but it's not always possible to have an assistant when you are working on your home.

If you invest in a bench vise to add to your industrial workbench, you can easily gain access to an accessory that will hold wood, metal, and other raw materials in place while you are working on them. A bench vise can be attached either to the end of your bench (known as an tail vise) or along the edge of the bench (known as a face vise) for your convenience.

2. Install a rubber mat.

Many of the hand tools used to complete a home improvement project create a significant amount of vibration when they are powered on. These vibrations can cause the materials that you are working on to wiggle around on the top of your workbench.

While placing the materials into a vise can be one way to hold them in place, if you are planning to make a minor adjustment to the piece, then taking the time to put the material into the vise can seem wasteful. By installing a rubber mat onto the surface of your industrial workbench, you will be able to place your materials onto the rubber mat in order to hold them firmly in place for a short period of time while you quickly use your hand tools to make adjustments.

3. Add a holdfast.

Keeping the materials that you are working on pressed flat against your workbench's surface is important when it comes to accuracy and safety. Since you don't have a third hand to hold these materials in place, it can be beneficial to install a holdfast to your workbench.

The holdfast presses down on a material to prevent vertical movement, allowing you to keep both hands free for working on your project.

When you are able to identify some of the accessories that can enhance the function of your industrial workbench, it's easy to see why investing in these accessories should be a priority before you start your next home improvement project.
